Which box – and do you need a driver?

Most riders self-drive a 3.5t box on a car licence. However, if you would rather not drive, a driven option takes the pressure off.

A 3.5t horsebox can usually be driven on a standard UK car licence (category B). Larger boxes such as 7.5t need a C1 entitlement, which many drivers who passed their test before 1 January 1997 already hold.
